An individual hoarded forty-six senior chihuahuas in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and now the dogs need new homes. The dogs require medical attention, particularly dental care, which costs around $1,200 per dog. People’s Anti-Cruelty Association (PACA), a no-kill animal rescue group, stepped up to take some of the dogs and find foster or adoptive homes for the rest.
Operation Chihuahua: Raising Funds for Rescued Dogs
To raise funds for medical and basic expenses, PACA initiated “Operation Chihuahua.”
The rescue group has not paid the boarding facility for the two months that the dogs have been under their care. PACA provides medical care and foster/adoptive homes for as many dogs as possible. The dogs are currently under round-the-clock care at a local boarding facility. Most of them have rotten teeth, which require extensive dental care. The rescue group started “Operation Chihuahua” to help raise money for medical and basic expenses.

How You Can Help You can make a difference in these dogs’ lives by donating blankets and towels to keep them warm. The rescue posted a plea for donations of fleece blankets and towels. You can drop them off at Doggie Den at 2525 Madison St NE near Menaul and San Pedro.

Transitioning Chihuahuas to Loving Homes
After rescuers saved them from a hoarding situation, the senior chihuahuas are being transitioned to new, loving homes. Julie Hart, a volunteer with the rescue group, is not sure how the owner ended up with so many dogs. She is focusing on the present and what she can do to help them.
PACA Takes in the Dogs People’s Anti-Cruelty Association (PACA), the state’s oldest no-kill animal rescue group, took in some of the dogs and is helping to find foster or adoptive homes for the rest.
