A chihuahua bit a teenage girl in downtown Sioux Falls on Thursday afternoon, and police are looking for information on the dog to make sure it is up to date with its shots.

Sioux Falls Animal Control responded to a call of a dog bite around 2 p.m. on the 100 block of South Phillips Avenue on Thursday, supervisor Julie DeJong said in an email.

The girl noticed the dog in the middle of the street running loose in traffic and went to catch the dog, DeJong said. The dog turned and bit her.

The chihuahua was described as black and puppy-sized with short hair and no collar, DeJong said. The dog ran off in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information to help identify the dog is asked to call animal control at 367-7000.
