The idea of dressing up one’s pets can be somewhat contentious. Some, for example, might see the act of dressing an animal in a sweater as silly—but others may argue that proper attire is necessary under certain weather conditions. Ultimately, however, it often comes down to each dog’s breed, size, and coat.

“Smaller, light-bodied breeds, toy breeds, and breeds that naturally have very short or thin hair coats benefit from a warm dog sweater for when they need to go outside, or for just hanging around the house,” explained PetMD. “A sweater can make a significant difference in your dog’s feeling of well-being.”

Vern, the chihuahua

Vern, the chihuahua, featured in TikToker @tommyboy3131’s recent video, appeared somewhat unconvinced. “It’s a [love-hate] kinda feeling toward the booties..” read the clip’s on-screen captions.

The footage showed Vern sitting on a bed as the TikToker placed a miniature winter coat and four tiny boots in front of him. The dog appears to recoil slightly in response.

The video then cuts to Vern, dressed in his winter attire, haphazardly galloping down a hallway and clomping into walls—it seems he hasn’t yet mastered walking in the footwear.

When the two finally reach their building’s exit, Vern seems to have revived and eagerly (and clumsily) heads outside. “There, now your feet don’t get cold! See?” explained @tommyboy3131 to his pup, concluding the clip.

“The clippidy clopper booties are back!” said the TikToker in the video’s caption, referencing the sound made by Vern’s boots upon hitting the ground. “Listen to those little feet move.”

Enamored with Vern and his weather-proof outfit, viewers flocked to the comments section with quips about the tiny pup.

“Why do chihuahuas always look like they’ve drank 10 cups of espresso,” said @barbiegirlbarbieworld77 in a comment that was liked over 84,000 times.

“The sound of his pitter patter is now part of me,” said @cosiestalmond.

“And here we see the sober friend taking the very drunk friend home after a long night out,” joked @37_angry_bees.

Many more called Vern a “drama queen.”
