If we started a sentence with “Chihuahua rips off eyelid”, you probably wouldn’t believe it. But, this happened as Kelsey Salmon had intended to have eyelash extensions done for her birthday. But ended up spending the day in the hospital because she got her eyelid ripped off after a horrendous mishap.
In a series of TikTok videos on the account @kelseysalmon, Salmon, who lives in Georgia, explains that her lash technician’s Chihuahua dog had jumped on her and bitten her face at the end of the appointment, ripping off her eyelid.
How she had her eyelid ripped off
“It happened so fast, I didn’t know what he grabbed, and my eyelid was on the floor. She picked it up and she was like. ‘You dropped your eyelid,’ and that’s when I started flipping out,” Salmon said in one of the clips. “She called 911, I went to the ER. I was in the ER for 15 hours on my birthday and it took two hours to re-attach it.”
Salmon was rushed to Kennestone Hospital in Atlanta, but it could not provide the specialist treatment needed. She was transferred to the city’s Grady Hospital. Where two oculoplastic surgeons re-attached her eyelid and sewed her eye shut for ten days to recover.
Although the experience has been traumatic, Salmon has been sharing it with her 123,000 TikTok followers in daily updates. Her first clip, which can be seen here, was a “tell me your worst lash experience, without telling me your worst lash experience” video, which has had more than 2 million views. Another update has been watched close to 6 million times.
What did the lash technician do?
The incident occurred on May 29, but the latest videos show that the stitches have come out, and Salmon can open her eye. The TikTok would not let her surgery stop her from going on vacation, so she has been visiting oculoplastic specialists while on a break in Hawaii. The doctors are reportedly happy with her progress.
“Given the circumstances, I feel OK,” she said in a later video. “Having the support of so many people and people caring about the progress, I’m going through, and the situation also makes me feel much better. Mentally, I don’t think I’ve coped with it yet, and it still hasn’t hit me. It’s just a traumatic thing to go through, and I think many people forget that.”
As for the lash technician whose pet bit her eyelid off? Salmon says she has made no contact and has blocked her. “She has not talked to me since it happened, and I am blocked. We have had no contact. I have no idea what the girl is doing or anything like that, and she has no idea how I’m doing unless she follows me on TikTok.”
