“Yo Quiero Taco Bell” is a phrase you might remember that cute little Taco Bell dog saying in commercials. And that cute little dog is a chihuahua! (Fun fact: The taco bell dog was named Gidget!)
Weighing an average of 3 to 6 pounds (but as much as 15 pounds), chihuahuas are amongst the most miniature breeds in the world, but this means nothing to their prominent personalities!
If you’ve ever had a chihuahua as a family pet, then you know that they make excellent family dogs and watchdogs. Their confidence and bold personality, combined with their suspicion of outsiders, make them seem more like a guard dogs, but inside the home, they can thrive in a loving environment with great attention.
Chihuahua Names
If you are going to get a chihuahua, it will undoubtedly need a name! How can you pick one with all the great chihuahua names? I have made it a bit easier on you and selected some great chihuahua names for you to consider for your little pup!

Spunky Personalities
Chihuahuas need names that suit their personality, whether they are outgoing or more reserved. They are fiery, feisty, yet friendly and loving to those in their pack. Quite honestly, even though they are tiny, I would be scared to rob a house that has a chihuahua; with how protective they are, you’d never leave with your ankles intact!
The correct name will eventually come out, and you will know it as soon as it hits you. If you can’t figure out what to name your Chihuahua, listen to its personality—it’s probably barking a name at you, and you don’t even know it!
Is a Chihuahua Right for You?
Chihuahuas must get correctly socialized at a young age, or they may grow up to be shy. They tend to form a close bond with one person, much like a pet bird, but if it is raised around a loving family, the chances of having a friendly people-dog are good!
Due to their small size, you need to consider how well they would do in your home. They can squeeze into small spaces, and since they like to follow their owners, they risk getting injured accidentally.
The same goes for having young children or other animals in the home, such as a large dog. Also, having a small dog is never recommended if you have any giant snakes as pets or that may grow large.
Chihuahuas are generally low-maintenance dogs, aside from routine vet visits, requiring very minimal grooming and not needing much space to be happy. Take him for a ride in your car, and he will be chipper!

His name is thunder, and he is an applehead chi. I love him to pieces. He is brilliant, and I found him to support me emotionally. He calms me down when I’m upset. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and he brings me tons of happiness. I wouldn’t trade him for a million dollars.
