The Coventry police are looking for the public’s help after a small dog was found injured and abandoned in a store parking lot.
The dog’s injuries were so serious it had to be euthanized, the police said.
The female “Chihuahua type” dog was found at about 7:20 p.m. Monday in a soft cooler bag near Walmart on Centre of New England Boulevard, the police said.
The dog was unresponsive but breathing, according to the police. She was immediately taken to a veterinarian, the police said.
“Once evaluated by a veterinarian, it was determined that due to the dog’s condition she had to be humanely euthanized,” the police said.
The police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person or people who abandoned the dog. The police say the dog may have been abandoned within 24 hours of its discovery.
The dog was 3 to 7 years old, weighed 8 to 10 pounds and was brown. It had no collar, tags or microchip.
