Kymi Aeschliman, a resident of western Washington, had recently lost a friend to COVID-19 and her beloved dog Olive to cancer. She and her husband decided to adopt a new rescue dog to give them something positive to look forward to. Aeschliman searched for a rescue dog online but was turned down several times. Then, she found a photo of a hairless Chihuahua named Cricket and knew she was the one for them. Cricket was in Texas, but the distance was no obstacle to true love. And Aeschliman’s husband flew to Texas to bring Cricket home.

Cricket, nicknamed “the Gremlin,” has an exceptional personality that brings joy to everyone she meets. She is also exceptionally smart and lovable, with a skincare routine more extensive than her owner’s. Caring for a hairless dog can be quite involved, but the effort is worth it when you love your pet. Aeschliman recommends getting pet insurance for those considering adopting a pet with special needs.

Cricket has found her forever home with the Aeschlimans, who are forever grateful she could “rescue” them. She is loved more than words can describe and has a significant following on her Instagram page, @cricketthegremlin.

Why Pet Insurance is Worth Every Penny When Adopting a Pet with Special Needs

Caring for a pet with special needs requires significant effort and resources, and pet insurance can provide financial support. Cricket, the hairless Chihuahua, has a weekly five-step skincare routine that requires special exfoliating skin care products and a moisturizer, among other things. Caring for her can be quite involved, and Aeschliman recommends getting pet insurance for those considering adopting a pet with special needs. Cricket’s skin issues and bouts with Giardia would have been much more challenging without financial support.

The Importance of Responsible Pet Ownership

Adopting a pet is a significant responsibility, and pet owners must provide their pets with the care and attention they need. In return, pets bring joy and love to their owners’ lives. Aeschliman’s adoption of Cricket provided her with something positive to look forward to during a difficult time in her life. Responsible pet ownership requires owners to take care of their pet’s needs and provide them with proper medical care and attention.
