Chihuahua with 'Scary' Eye Found on Leicester

The RSPCA has rescued a chihuahua with a "severe "scary" eye injury in Leicester.

The chihuahua wore a large collar with the name 'Tia' on it. She was found by a member of the public on Hinckley Road by the junction of Golf Course Lane.

RSPCA Inspector Richard Durant said she was found in a "bad way" and "her left eye was horrific". Poor pup, one can only wonder the horrors that she's been through.

After examination by a vet, her injured eye has now been removed. She is now recovering at one of RSPCA's animal centers.

Staff have named her Minnie and are appealing for anyone who has any information about the chihuahua and where she came from to contact them.

Sadly her condition wouldn’t have gotten like this overnight and it is likely she was suffering for a long time.

The Chihuahua with "Scary" Eye Wasn't the Only One

The RSPCA has received more than 1,600 reports of abandoned animals across England & Wales since lockdown began - around 40 a day.

The charity has released the figures as part of its emergency appeal, launched to keep its rescue teams out on the road during the Coronavirus crisis and continuing to rescue animals most in need

In most cases, we don’t know why pets are abandoned but it’s really important to remind people that there is no evidence to suggest that Covid-19 can be passed from pets to people.

There is lots of help and support out there for anyone else struggling to get animal food, with health or behavioral issues, exercising their pets, or managing to keep children safe around pets. Please don’t be afraid to ask for help.
